dance – duet

Awards: 2008 Sazka Award for Discovery in Dance

“All knowledge, feelings and our thoughts are stored between the pages of countless books. The need for self-expression, the need to leave something behind, after the end of one’s own existence, has always been there and still persists. Graphic expression is a historical image of humanity that is always changing. The book is a window through which we can peer into the human soul and the world of the imagination. It is one way in which we can share and reach out to others. It is a way in which thought and self become immortal.”

A dance duet inspired by the meditation piece “Sounds in the Library” by the Rutman Steel Cello Ensemble. The first version of the choreography could be seen in the opening night of the Jarmila Jeřábková Choreography Competition at the Duncan Centre Theatre, where the previous year (2005) Lenka Bartůňková won the first prize for her choreography Libera me. Later this duet was divorced and in 2008 it won the main prize in the Sazka Prize for Discovery in Dance in the Czech Republic. Since 2009 the choreography has been part of the New Network project.
